CASTIGLIONI Booth D06

CASTIGLIONI was born in March 2018, stemming from the positive and formative experience of BOATOS Fine Arts in Sao Paulo. CASTIGLIONI was established with the intention of creating and maintaining its presence in Europe and South America through its main headquarters in Milan and a series of pop-up exhibitions and site projects in Sao Paulo. The project positions itself as a privileged intermediary between two fundamental realities and continents in the international artistic panorama, offering a program in both contexts that can be perceived as innovative and forward-thinking. The gallery, through the diverse languages and peculiarities of the artists it collaborates with, aims to present a cohesive narrative consistent with the international and universal stance required by the art world. CASTIGLIONI focuses its efforts on research and proposal: the gallery has extensively explored the possibilities of pictorial practice in the new generations of artists. Despite the diverse practices among these artists, it has identified a common matrix among a group of them as a core of its research. This marks the starting point for the gallery's continuous research journey, aiming to explore and highlight the dominant qualities and peculiarities of the artists that the project commits to engaging with each time.

Giulio Bonfante

Giulio Bonfante has found the fundamental point of reference for his practice in the twists of painting’s recent history. He feels part of a tradition in which painting means trying to paint while wondering if it’s a good idea, caring about the destiny of painting despite being skeptical about its current relevance.

It’s an approach that doesn’t require clear intentions. It needs instead a sincere interest and an emotional involvement in painting’s evolutions, in its relationship with contemporary art and the contemporary world. A tender look at what’s left today of the grand ideas and ideals that moved modernist painting, feeling in its artifacts the passion, the efforts and the doubts of all those who tried to take part in its history. A look that is present and distant, analytical and romantic.
